The Express Entry program has three subcategories – Federal Skilled Workers program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Traders Program (FSTP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The Federal Skilled Workers program has its eligibility criteria of 67 points for selection based on language proficiency, age, work experience, education and adaptability of the applicant.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is the right of every province to select the applicant as per the labor market requirement and demand of the applicant’s occupation in the region. What are the requirements for Canada Immigration?

The express entry program is the fastest immigration pathway to apply for a Canada PR Visa. Under the flagship immigration program - Express entry program, Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP) has 347 eligible occupations. All the profiles in the express entry pool are ranked based on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The highest-ranked profiles in the pool are then issued Invitation to Apply (ITAs) to submit their application for Canada PR Visa to the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship (IRCC).

  • To apply for Canada PR Visa through FSWP, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Work Experience: Must possess a minimum of one year of continuous work experience in the past 10 years in a skilled occupation that is categorized under NOC skill levels 0 (Managerial Occupations), A (Professional Occupations), or B (Technical Occupations and Skilled Trades).
  • Minimum Points: Must score at least 67 points out of 100 in the FSWP point assessment grid.
  • Language Proficiency: Must take a recognized third-party language test and score a minimum of 6 points per band in IELTS (for English).
  • Proof of Funds: Must possess a sufficient amount of funds to financially support themselves or any accompanying family member for the move to Canada.
  • Health and Character Status: You must possess a good health certificate signed by a doctor and a good character certificate signed by a policeman to get immigration. Any country would make sure that they are not taking in a fugitive or a person with an infectious disease.
  • Must be admissible to Canada.


How much time does it take to move to Canada?

Processing time for the Canada PR Visa application depends on the immigration program you have applied under. Express entry program is the fastest immigration pathway to Canada PR Visa. An ideal application takes around 6 to 8 months to process. In the program, all the profiles are ranked based on the CRS and the higher-ranked profiles are issued ITAs through regularly held express entry draws.

If you have applied through Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), the processing time is around is longer in comparison to the Express entry program. It takes around 12 months.

Another immigration program is Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP). Another immigration program's average application processing time is 12-16 months.

What is the process of applying for the Canada PR 2021?

When the candidate is applying for the PR status of Canada, then there are two pathways to do so - either through Express Entry Program or through the Provincial Nomination Program(PNP). The Canada PR visa process has eased out in recent times due to flexible laws and online processing of the application.

In the case of Express Entry, the following steps are undertaken for migration-

  • Create an Express Entry program profile and get a registration code
  • When your application is in the Express Entry pool wait for the EE draws result
  • On meeting the minimum score achieve ITA prepare to Apply for Canada PR
  • Start the process of documentation – Education records, work experience, medical and police verification, proof of funds, etc.
  • File the PR application


In the case of applications submitted through the PNP, there are again two ways – either the candidate can apply directly for the PNP, or the candidate can be picked from the Express Entry program. The process in that case entails –

  • Choose a province and apply for PNP
  • Based on the province’s demand the application is evaluated
  • On being selected achieve nomination from the province
  • Apply for the PR status


How Much Money do You Need to Immigrate to Canada?

The cost of immigrating to Canada through Express Entry is generally about $2,300 CAD for a single applicant, or about $4,500 CAD for a couple. This amount does not include the settlement funds that many candidates must show to be eligible for Canadian immigration; this amount will vary by family size, starting at around $13,000 CAD for a single applicant. If a candidate is applying through a provincial program, additional fees may apply. Proof of settlement funds are not required for those with a Canadian job offer or who are applying under the Canadian Experience Class.

All forms of business immigration require significant investment in Canada. It might require the applicant to have invested in a Canadian company or require an applicant to make an interest free loan to the federal or provincial government.

In most cases, you do not provide financial information to sponsor a spouse or dependent child. If you are sponsoring other family members like a parent or grandparent, there is a financial requirement that will need to be met in order to be eligible to apply.

If you are applying under humanitarian and compassionate grounds applications, no financial requirements exist. The only time financial information is required under this category of immigration is if the refugee is a privately sponsored applicant. In that case, the Canadian group sponsoring the refugee must demonstrate that they have raised sufficient funds to sponsor the resettlement of the refugee candidate.

Do I Need a Job Offer to Immigrate to Canada?

No. The vast majority of all Canadian permanent residents do not have a job offer in Canada when they apply. While some Canadian immigration programs require applicants to have a Canadian job offer, there are a range of programs and options available to foreign nationals without an offer of employment in Canada.

Can I Work Anywhere in Canada?

Once a person has Canadian permanent resident status, they have the authorization to live and work anywhere in Canada. If a foreign national does not have Canadian permanent resident status, then they must have the proper authorization to work in Canada. Usually, this authorization comes in the form of a Canadian work permit.
